Here in First Class we have been very busy getting started with our Zippy's Friends programme. We are learning how to recognise and cope with different feelings and situations that make us feel this way. So far, we have talked about the feelings of happiness, sadness, anger and jealousy. This week we are talking all about feeling nervous. All of the class have worked very hard to come up with different solutions and ways of coping with these emotions. There are two important rules that we ollow to help us come up with a good solution;
It makes us feel better.
It doesn't hurt me or anybody else.
Here are some of the solutions we have come up with so far!
What to do when you feel sad?
Talk to someone about how you're feeling. It can be your family, friends or a teacher.
If you feel like crying, you can let it out. Sometimes we feel better after we have had a good cry.
Do something that makes you laugh or smile.
What to do when you feel angry?
Use 3+10. This means take three deep breaths and count to ten. You can make it a 5+10 if you need to!
Take some time by yourself. You can have some time to calm yourself down by doing some breathing, meditation, listening to music or reading a book.
Talk to someone about how you're feeling. It can be your family, friends or a teacher.
What to do when you feel jealous?
If we are jealous about our friends playing with someone else, we can all play together or we can tell our friend about how we are feeling. It's ok for our friends to have other friends too.
Sometimes, we have to accept that other people have things that we don't have. This can be a little tricky but we try our best. If it is something we really want, we might be able to save up and get it for ourselves.
We are really enjoying Zippy's Friends and have lots more learning to do!
